Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an upcoming 2011 American science fiction film. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt. It is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series that will act as a foundation with an origin story for a new film series. Its premise is similar to Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, the fourth film in the original series, but it is not a direct remake in that it does not fit into that series' continuity. It is slated for release in the United States and Canada on August 5, 2011
Rise of the Planet of the Apes Plot
Will Rodman (Eddie Griffin), currently residing in San Francisco, is working on a cure for Alzheimer's by performing tests on apes. The first test subject is Caesar (Samuel L. Jackson). This "cure" genetically modifies his way of thinking to create a new breed of ape with human-like intelligence. Caesar learns well, but human authority continues to test him and contain him. In response to abuse from visitors, he eventually proves smart enough to break free from his cage and release the cure among other apes, affecting other apes like Caesar. Millions of apes begin to foment revolution. Soon, war breaks out between humans and apes. Rodman may be the only one able to stop them before the ape revolution ends with them becoming the dominant species on the planet.

Griffin was cast after talks with Tobey Maguire broke down. Whoopi Goldberg and John Lithgow joined the cast on June 22, 2010. Andy Serkis will play Caesar, the ape that leads the revolt. Tom Felton will also star as the human character Dodge Landon. As of July 12, 2010, Brian Cox was in final negotiations to join the cast. According to his Twitter page, David Hewlett has also joined the cast, though he had not mentioned what his role in the film would be at that time. Canadian actress Chelah Horsdal will also star as Irena. Panou will also appear uncredited as a SFPD
